Creative, relational dramatherapy for individuals and couples, informed by systemic practice and trauma-focused training including EMDR.

There are times in life when we no longer feel like ourselves. Maybe something has changed, or ended, or you're carrying something difficult you haven't been able to put into words. You don't have to make sense of it alone.

We carry many roles: the one who copes, the one who adapts, the one who translates between worlds, the partner, the parent, the child. When life changes, some of those roles can stop fitting. Here we can look at them gently, from a little distance, and notice what is yours.

We can begin with a story, an image or a few words, at whatever pace feels manageable.

Holding your story.

Why Anam Roots?

I believe we all have a story that deserves to be held.

Anam is the Irish word for soul. Here, we share soul stories: the ones that shape us, the ones we carry, the ones we're still discovering.

It's a word that carries weight without being heavy. It points to the part of us that exists beyond our roles, our histories and the stories we’ve been told about ourselves.

Some people need room to talk. Others find an image, a movement, or a piece of a story says something they haven't been able to say directly. Some find that their body has been holding onto experiences their mind has worked hard to put aside.

As a dramatherapist, I use creativity as another way of making sense of experience, never as performance. Talking directly isn’t always the place to begin, so we might start with a story, a metaphor or an image and let something emerge in its own way.

Therapy for individuals and couples

There are times in life when we no longer feel like ourselves. You may have experienced trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, burnout, or a change that's left you feeling disconnected. Carrying things you can't quite put into words, or repeating patterns you don't fully understand.

I believe some of these experiences are too difficult to reach through words alone and that creativity can offer a way in when talking on its own isn't enough.

My work draws on Dramatherapy and Systemic Practice, informed by trauma-focused training including EMDR. Sometimes words are not enough. Imagination, the body, and the stories we carry can offer other ways of exploring what we experience.

You don't need to be creative to benefit from this way of working. Creativity is simply offered when it's useful, not expected. Every session is shaped around you and what feels right.

Adults in group movement for dramatherapy

Why dramatherapy?

I believe we all have a creative side, and that not everything has words. Dramatherapy isn’t about acting. It’s an invitation to explore through movement, story or something that holds a feeling, or simply to talk, at a pace that feels manageable. You’re welcome as you are.

Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that works with both mind and body, reaching towards what lies at the root of what we carry. Through story, metaphor, imagery, movement and reflection, it makes room for what may otherwise feel difficult to name, in a way that feels creative, yet contained.

This might look like using an object to hold a feeling or represent different parts of yourself, stepping into a role to see a situation from another angle, or letting the body find a shape or gesture for something words can’t reach.

Working this way lets you approach difficult experiences from a safe distance, using metaphor or story to explore what feels too raw to face directly. It can help you notice patterns in how you relate to yourself and others, and try out new ways of responding, gently and without judgement.

Over time, this can bring new understanding, a felt sense of relief, and a greater capacity to sit with what once felt unmanageable.

You don’t need any experience of drama or creativity, and the work is always shaped around you.

How we might work

Our work together is gentle, relational, and shaped around what feels supportive for you. There is no fixed way to begin. We make space for what is present, and move at a pace that feels manageable.

The Beginning

Beginning with what feels present

We start with what feels most present, whether that is a feeling, a question, a pattern, or something harder to name.

The Process

Exploring through story and reflection

Through conversation, imagery, metaphor, and creative reflection, we may begin to notice new meanings, patterns, and possibilities.

The Integration

Making sense of what emerges

Over time, the work can bring greater clarity, connection, and a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships, and the stories you carry.

When you feel ready

If you'd like to ask a question, or get a sense of whether this way of working feels right for you, you're very welcome to reach out. There's no rush.
