Couples therapy, grounded in understanding

In couples therapy, we pause together to look at the patterns, tensions, and ways of relating that may be affecting your relationship. This work can support communication, understanding, and repair, while building a deeper awareness of what each of you brings to the relationship and to each other.

Relationships often carry patterns that reach further back than the relationship itself, ways of connecting, protecting, or withdrawing that were shaped long before you met. Drawing on Systemic Family Practice, we look at the wider context each of you brings: your histories, your families, and the roots of how you learned to love and be loved.

Sometimes, the things that matter most between two people are the hardest to say out loud. Where it feels useful, creative approaches can help make visible what's easier to see than to explain, for instance, using objects to represent each of you, or the space between you.

Over time, this work can help you feel more understood, more able to communicate what matters, and more connected, not just to each other,  but

to the roots of who you both are.

My approach

My work with couples is informed by Systemic Family Practice, paying attention to the wider histories, contexts, and relationship dynamics that shape how you connect. The aim isn't to decide who's right or wrong, but to create space for reflection, honesty, and movement towards greater understanding and care.

I also draw on Dramatherapy, and creativity is offered where it feels useful, not expected. Sometimes the things that matter most are hardest to reach through words alone. Image, metaphor, and movement can offer another way in, making visible what's difficult to explain, and opening up new ways of understanding each other, gently and without judgement.

Kind partnership

I see you as the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering steadiness, care, and a listening presence as we explore what you need.

How we’ll work together

Quiet reassurance

We begin where you are. I offer a calm and supportive space where your comfort matters, and where we can move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

Beyond the spoken

When words feel difficult, we can also explore through imagery, metaphor, or creative reflection. There is no right way to do this. We will simply begin in whatever way feels most natural.

What working together might feel like.

Our work together is gentle and unhurried. We begin by arriving just as you are, with space to settle in and notice how things feel in the moment.

Through reflection, conversation, and creative exploration, we can look at your experience from new angles. Sometimes imagery, metaphor, or story can help something make sense in a different way. Over time, this can bring more clarity, ease, and a deeper sense of connection with yourself.
